Bodwell High School

Bodwell High School, a private boarding school for grades 8 to 12, completed a 2-part AI workshop series, to equip their educators and administrators with the theoretical, practical applications and ethical uses of AI tools in education, demonstrating a pioneering commitment to innovative educational technologies in BC.

Workshop Overview

In a groundbreaking collaboration with Bodwell High School, Emerson Academy delivered a comprehensive workshop series focused on artificial intelligence in education. The initiative was warmly welcomed by key stakeholders including Head of School Stephen Goobie, Principal Housam Hallis, IT Director Janice Wong, VP Shane Chaffey, and IB Head of School Cathy Lee, demonstrating the school's commitment to embracing innovative educational technologies.

The workshop series was structured to provide educators with both theoretical understanding and practical applications of AI tools in education. Our first workshop focused on establishing a strong foundation in AI basics, covering essential tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, while addressing crucial topics such as the philosophy of education in the AI era and the evolving landscape of educational technology.

With a carefully curated curriculum, we ensured that participants gained insights into both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI in education. The workshops specifically addressed key concerns such as plagiarism detection, academic integrity, and the importance of maintaining human-centered learning environments while leveraging AI capabilities.

Throughout the sessions, we maintained a balance between theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, allowing educators to explore real-world applications of AI tools in their teaching practices.

Our collaboration

The implementation phase of our AI workshops at Bodwell High School focused on practical applications and real-world scenarios. We designed interactive demonstrations that showcased how AI tools could enhance both teaching and learning experiences, from curriculum planning to student engagement strategies.

A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to exploring various AI-powered educational tools and their specific applications. We demonstrated how these tools could be used for personalized learning, content creation, and assessment, while maintaining academic integrity and promoting critical thinking skills among students.

The response from Bodwell's educators was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing enthusiasm about implementing these new technologies in their classrooms. The workshop series successfully bridged the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application, empowering teachers to confidently integrate AI tools into their teaching methodologies.

Looking ahead, we've established a foundation for ongoing collaboration with Bodwell High School, planning future workshops that will delve deeper into advanced AI applications in education. This partnership represents a significant step forward in preparing both educators and students for the evolving landscape of AI-enhanced education.
